JoyceDeWitt first performed on stage at the age of 13 years old. DeWitt earned her degree from Ball State University with a Bachelor's degree in Arts. The director recommended that she apply to UCLA's Department of Theater MFA program. The program awarded her the Master of Fine Arts Fellowship along with the Clifton Webb Scholarship. Dewitt stated that she had never met actor Abe Vigoda while she was at UCLA. She was employed as secretary during her time at UCLA. DeWitt's character as Janet Wood in Three's Company's 1977-84 season is the one that made her the most famous. She was chosen to play Janet in the show's pilot and was hired. Janet also appeared in an episode of The Ropers in the year 1979. Following the show's conclusion, Three's Company ended in 1984, DeWitt appeared in an episode of Finder of Lost Loves in the year 1984, in which she then ceased acting for a few years. The stage was her first time back on stage in June of 1991 when she played a part in a Noises Off production at Michigan's Cherry County Playhouse. In the following year, she appeared in the 1995 TV comedy film Spring Fling! Pinky and the Brain featured the character inspired by her voice, which was performed by another actress in 1997. She was featured in an episode of Cybill and also made a brief appearance in Living Single's final episode. [6] Some of her TV shows of the 2000s include Hope Island and The Nick at Nite Holiday Special as and Call of the Wild.
